Day 1: Transfer from Kigali to Volcanoes National Park

You will be picked up from the hotel or airport and begin your journey traveling northwards to the Volcanoes National Park. Check into your hotel and relax for the rest of the day while enjoying the spectacular views of the mountain scenery of the Virunga Volcanoes and the rolling hills. Meals and overnight at your booked safari lodge.

Day 2: Mountain gorilla trekking in Volcanoes National Park

You will wake up pretty early, around 6:30 a.m., for breakfast and get your packed lunch to transfer to the park headquarters for the briefing before your gorilla tracking experience. You will be assigned rangers and a particular gorilla family to track. Note that Volcanoes National Park has up to 10 habituated gorilla groups available for the trekking experience.

Each gorilla group is tracked by not more than eight travelers in a single day. After allocation and a briefing from the rangers, you will transfer to the trekking point just outside Volcanoes National Park. When you finally get an encounter with these gentle giants, you may get a maximum of one hour with them to take pictures and observe them. After that, you will return to meet your driver at the starting point and thereafter transfer to your lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Cultural Experience tour with a return to Kigali for a city tour

Wake up early to have a delicious breakfast, and after check-out of your safari lodge, it will be quite an early morning because you will be transferring from Volcanoes National Park and heading to the Iby’iwacu cultural village for a great dance and cultural performance by the Rwandese people. You will get to visit the local markets and purchase some authentic Rwandan souvenirs, such as crafts.

However, if time permits, you can also get to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Site, where thousands of lives were lost in the 1994 Rwanda Genocide are remembered and mourned.
