Detailed itinerary for 10-days explore Rwanda with primate trekking and wildlife safari.

Day 1: Kigali international airport

Upon your arrival at the airport, meet our guide or driver. Thereafter, transfer to the Kigali Serena Hotel or Classic Hotel, where you will have dinner overnight. Meal plan: H/B

Day 2: Transfer from Kigali to Akagera National Park

After your breakfast at your hotel of residence, meet our guide and set off on a scenic drive to Akagera National Park. Have lunch at Akagera Game Lodge or Ruzizi Tented Camp. After lunch, go for afternoon game drives where you will encounter wildlife like elephants, zebras, lions, giraffes, impalas etc. Dinner and overnight at Akagera Game Lodge or Camping. Meal plan: full board.

Day 3: Game drive, Boat ride

Dawn drives up to the northern part of the park to catch up with early risers before they go into hiding. I expect to see lions, antelopes, giraffes, bushbucks, and much more. Return to the lodge for lunch. Thereafter, go for an afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema. We are most likely with high chances to spot the variety of wild animals along the water banks, which include hippos, crocodiles, as well as stunning bird species. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Meal plan: full board.

Day 4: Transfer from Akagera to Nyungwe Forest National Park

After breakfast, we embark on our safari vehicle and set off on a long, scenic drive to Nyungwe National Park. Stopover in Nyanza Museum and Butare Museum for photography and experience the historical literature of the sites. Lunch en route; later, continue to Nyungwe Forest, home to the chimpanzees, where chimpanzee trekking adventures are awesome. Dinner and overnight at Nyungwe Forest Lodge, Gisakura Guest House, or Nyungwe Top View Hotel. Meal plan: F/B

Day 5: Chimpanzee trekking Nyungwe Forest National Park

Have your breakfast, prepare for the briefing from park officials, and set off into the forest for a chimpanzee trekking experience. Return to the lodge for lunch, and in the afternoon, go for colobus monkey trekking and expect to encounter other primates such as baboons, vervet monkeys, birds, and more flora. Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight. Meal plan: full board.

Day 6: Nature walk trail and canopy walk.

Today we shall have our cup of coffee and thereafter trek the forest to search for more primates that this forest offers and look for birds and other rare plant species. Return to the lodge for lunch, and after our African cuisine, go for the breathtaking forest canopy walk, where you will view the waterfalls, birds, and more primates as well as the amazing forest canopies. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay. Meal plan: full board.

Day 7: Transfer from Nyungwe to Volcanoes National Park

Take an early morning breakfast; thereafter, depart for the scenic drive to Volcanoes National Park. Lunch en-route; later, embark on our drive with the scenic view and photographing along the way. Dinner and overnight at Sabyinyo Lodge, Virunga Lodge, Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, Kinigi Guest House, or Le’bombou Lodge Meal plan: full board.

Day 8: Gorilla tracking in Volcanoes National Park

Have an early breakfast, and then head to the park offices for a briefing from park officials. Thereafter, enter the forest to search for the shy mountain gorillas. The trekking may take a full day or a half day, depending on the movement of the gentle giants. Allowed one hour is given for photography, observations, and enjoying them feeding or playing around. Return to the lodge for dinner and an overnight stay. Meal: full board.

Gorilla Trekking Volcanoes National Park

Day 9: Golden monkey trekking in Volcanoes and hike to Dian Fossey.

Early morning breakfast, then golden monkey trekking. Lunch, and after visiting Dian Fossey’s hike at Karisoke research center and experience Dian’s effort to conserve the gorillas in the mist before she was attacked by Rwandan hunters, she was buried next to Digit, a silverback gorilla. On your way back, just proceed to Lake Kivu and enjoy evening beach leisure if time permits. Dinner and overnight at Lake Kivu Serena Hotel, Strip Hotel, or Paradise Malachite. Meal: F/B.

Day 10: Boat cruise and Transfer to Kigali for city tour

Have an early morning breakfast after enjoying a boat cruise up to the coffee island and experiencing the scenic view of the surrounding islands. Lunch, and after setting off to Kigali for your souvenir shopping, Later, our guide will drop you off at the airport for your return flight after your final day of exploring Rwanda. Meal plan: H/B.
